We are supportive of this policy, which covers Somerset Hall as set out within the identified list of facilities. This is an important social, cultural and community facility for local people which includes theatre provision. We consider the Plan to have met the relevant basic conditions.

Government planning policy, within the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), identifies how the planning system can play an important role in facilitating social interaction and creating healthy, inclusive communities. Encouraging communities to become more physically active through walking, cycling, informal recreation and formal sport plays an important part in this process. Providing enough sports facilities of the right quality and type in the right places is vital to achieving this aim

The plan states « This involves the creation of attractive, safe, walkable environments » 1. My first observation is that the Marina is not a safe environment given the lack of railings to stop people falling in to deep water. I have used the marina for exercise for many years and now find the mix of pedestrians, bicycles and runners very dangerous because of the entirely unprotected paving edge next to the water. In places the paving is also uneven causing a trip hazard into water. Sooner or l
