Green Infrastructure

Our parks, beaches, green spaces, wildlife, countryside, public rights of way and waterways are precious, and we have prepared this new strategy to help to protect and enhance them.

Green infrastructure is a technical term that we use as shorthand to describe how we look after these spaces.  We have adopted this definition opposite to help explain in more detail what we mean.

The strategy will help to ensure that the agenda around green infrastructure is delivered effectively in North Somerset, and will cover the period 2021-2031

The strategy, maps and appendices can be found here.

Tell us what you think!

The green infrastructure strategy will impact all aspects of life in North Somerset and it is therefore important that as many people as possible contribute to its development.

We want to gather feedback about the factual components of the strategy and opportunities to develop the strategy further.

Once you have read through the strategy please answer our questionnaire to share your views.

The consultation will close on 9th April 2021.

Message from Executive Member Climate Emergency and Environment Councillor Bridget Petty

Petty - websiteThe North Somerset landscape with its parks, beaches, green spaces, wildlife, countryside, public rights of way and waterways is precious.

Since the Covid-19 crisis our appreciation of our natural environment has never been greater, but the climate and nature emergency has shown just how fragile our environment is and how careful management is needed to enable it to flourish.

It is now more important than ever to protect and manage our open spaces to maximise the huge benefits they provide to our quality of life. This will need more co-operation and collaboration. That is why we have prepared this new green infrastructure strategy.

We want this work to contribute to improving habitats for wildlife, enhance biodiversity and to support improved health and wellbeing for our residents.

We want to understand whether the ambition of the strategy, its content, aims and objectives are right and, if not, what we might be missing. So please get involved in the consultation and give us your feedback.
