Better places, homes and jobs: consultation on a development programme for land owned by North Somerset Council

This consultation is now closed. The original text is retained below for the record. Consultation results are available here.

about possible housing and employment development on land owned by North Somerset Council. The deadline for responses is 9am on Monday 20 June.

In February 2021, we adopted a development strategy ( setting out our ambitions for the use of land we own to:

  • provide homes and jobs that meet the needs of its communities – current and future – while helping with government targets for housing supply,
  • offer better quality and more sustainable developments,
  • deliver sites that the market won’t deliver, including difficult brownfield land and employment sites, and
  • generate funding to help deliver other priorities, such as investing in schools, transport links and leisure facilities.

Have your say

You are asked to have your say on:

  • which sites you would like to see included in the development programme, and
  • what type of housing or employment development should take place at those sites.

The consultation includes questions about sites in Weston-super-Mare, Portishead, Clevedon, Nailsea, Banwell, Backwell, Locking and Hutton.

The development consultation is separate to the existing Local Plan consultation. The two are different as this consultation seeks to find out what people would like to see happen with land owned by North Somerset Council.

Please read the document Better Homes, Places and Jobs which sets out the options as we see them and then give us your thoughts using this questionnaire (Closed).

Here is a pdf lookalike version of the questionnaire if you want to browse it before completing it online. We are not accepting hard copy questionnaire responses (unless you have a need for it in a different format).

Next steps

The responses received from the consultation will help shape a final programme of development to be considered by Full Council in autumn 2022. Detailed consultations will then follow on the preferred development sites.

Context for this consultation In February 2021 the Council adopted a Development Strategy, which agreed the principle of creating a programme of development for council-owned land.
