What you think of the way we consult with residents (and with organisations representing residents)?

We are asking this now because we are reviewing how we consult and want to get ideas from you about what we should improve.

We are asking about ‘general’ council consultations, not the ones related to Planning Policy /Local Development Framework.  

General consultations are the ones you don't need usually to be registered to respond to, the ones listed here (or see top image on right). They are nearly always asking for views on a proposed policy, decision or project. 

And not the ones listed here (or see bottom image on right).

For context, these are the main guidelines for North Somerset general consultations :

• All are listed on the council general consultation website (this one).
• For those not online, list these on a monthly poster in libraries, with a phone number.
• All consultations run for at least 6 weeks (8 weeks if over school summer holidays or Christmas).
• Are clear about what is up for consultation and why.
• Publish results and ideally what changed.
• Use clear language.
• Provide alternative formats for people who need them.
• Don’t ask for personal information unless it’s necessary. And if it is to treat it in line with data protection law.
