The Trust appreciates detailed CS4: Pleased that this is given so much prominence in the core strategy. Recommend strengthening (1) to (3) by omitting 'seeking to' and inserting (1) 'meeting local, regional...'; (2) 'ensuring that new development is...'; and (3) 'protecting and enhancing important habitats'.
Reinforce paras 3.75 and 3.86 by emphasising that development should result in net gain, ensuring conformity with regional and national policy. Would welcome seeing the GI strategy.

Area Policies CS28: Weston-super-Mare and CS30: Weston Urban Extension.
The emphasis on green infrastructure and biodiversity in these policies is very much welcomed by the Trust and we would be interested in being consulted on the development of these areas of the core strategy as they unfold, especially the Western Urban Extension SPD.

The Trust would appreciate seeing the SA of the document as this would give an independent assessment of its suitability. An SA is usually available at the same time as a Core Strategy at this stage so that this assessment can be undertaken.

Welcome policy CS19: Green Wedges/Strategic Gaps. We consider however, that the wording of the latter policy should be strengthened as for policy CS4 so that it reads 'the council will protect green wedges/gaps...'

CS9 should be corrected to refer to the North Somerset Levels and Moors. We recommend that they be given their own point within section CS9 and given the same prominence as the Mendip Hills AONB in point (3). This section should also refer to ALL watercourses as local corridors for biodiversity, (mentioning just 3 detracts from the many others).

Support wording "Living within environmental limits" and especially the emphasis on green infrastructure in CS1(5). Wording of CS1(6)should be strengthened to read "as well as the elimination of any adverse impacts through sensitive design" to meet biodiversity gain requirements.

Deleted User | 19 Feb 2010 | Core Strategy - Consultation Draft Chapter 2: Visions and Objectives VIS 7: Smaller Settlements and Countryside Vision
Welcome the wording of VIS7 where it refers to "distinctive landscapes protected from inappropriate development...agricultural use supported and valued for its biodiversity". It is recommended that other vision statements for major towns and villages should also refer to biodiversity so that the concept is taken into account in urban as well as rural areas.

Deleted User | 19 Feb 2010 | Core Strategy - Consultation Draft Chapter 3: Spatial Policies Delivering a Prosperous Economy CS23: Bristol International Airport CS23: Bristol International Airport
Policy CS23 should be amended so that proposals for the development of the airport will be required to demonstrate the satisfactory resolution of environmental issues, including the impact of growth on the natural environment. The Trust would be interested in taking part in the consultation on the review of the Airport Master Plan and the development of an Area Action Plan which is referred to in this policy.
